Matcha Export Revenue Hits Record ¥32 Billion — Uji Leads Global Demand
Japan's Ministry of Agriculture confirms that matcha exports surpassed all previous records in fiscal 2025.
Japan's matcha export revenue reached a record ¥32 billion in fiscal year 2025 — a 22% increase on the previous year and nearly triple the figure recorded in 2019.
Where the demand is coming from
The United States remains the single largest export market, accounting for 38% of total volume. Europe — led by France, Germany, and the UK — now represents 24% of the market.
The premiumisation trend
Top-tier tencha now represents 14% of total export revenue — up from 8% in 2022 — as international consumers demonstrate increasing willingness to pay for origin-specific, high-quality production.
